How to Know Christians on Campus Clubs Are Recovery Clubs
Firstly, the admin and owner of thelordsrecovery.org went to Christian Student Fellowship at UCA in Conway, AR, which was directly tied to the Recovery. That club met with several other “Christians on Campus” clubs, specifically including Christians on Campus at OU in Norman, Oklahoma, which is also directly tied to the Lord’s Recovery through the God-man List and the Carnegie Mellon List, both referenced below.
While the admin and others who have helped with this website can attest to the Recovery’s direct link to these clubs, there is other more concrete documentation proving these clubs are Recovery clubs, that Christians on Campus is connected to the Lord’s Recovery and Witness Lee. This is a list of those connections.
1. The God-man List
- The website agodman.com, titled “A God-man in Christ,” has an About page that says, “You will probably notice that a lot of quotes on this blog are from the ministry of Watchman Nee and Witness Lee.” The site references Witness Lee quotes and references the Lord’s Recovery several times.
- A God-man in Christ includes an extensive list of Christians on Campus clubs, directly tying numerous Christians on Campus clubs directly to the Lord’s Recovery and Witness Lee.
2. The Carnegie Mellon List
- Carnegie Mellon University’s Christians on Campus university club site includes a club constitution/bylaws PDF document, which lists only “some” of their affiliated groups, a list of Christians on Campus clubs across the United States that are known to be affiliated with the Recovery.
- The list implies that there are more colleges than listed, clubs worldwide (emboldened emphasis added): “We are affiliated with Christians on Campus groups at scores of colleges and universities in the United States and several foreign nations. Some of our affiliated groups are…”
3. The Church in Riverside Website
- The Christians on Campus in Riverside at UCR is on the God-man List and the Carnegie List.
- The Church in Riverside, a church in the Lord’s Recovery, has a website with a page dedicated to Christians on Campus.
- The Church in Riverside’s website top-level navigation (Ministry > Get a FREE Study Bible) is a link to Bibles for America, a Recovery ministry which gives free Recovery Bibles and Recovery books. On its About page, Bibles for America states, “BfA is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to distribute free copies of the New Testament Recovery Version and Christian books throughout the United States.”
4. The North Lake College Umbrella Statement
- The North Lake College Christians on Campus website has a Links page. That page includes links to Bibles for America. Bibles for America is an organization that gives away free Recovery Version Bibles (the Lord’s Recovery proprietary translation; it includes footnotes by the cult’s teacher, Witness Lee) and Recovery books by the cult’s teacher, Witness Lee, and whom Witness Lee followed, Watchman Nee.
- The North Lake College Christians on Campus website has an FAQ page. That page contains a statement implying that the club name “Christians on Campus” is linked to one another across college campuses: “Christians on Campus is available at a number of local and area campuses. There is a good chance that you can participate in Christians on Campus at the school where you are transferring.”
5. The CAL Tech Web of Connections
This one’s longer to follow, but the connections are quite obvious:
- On the CAL Tech Christians on Campus club Facebook site, the about page lists a phone number. The website identifying Recovery meeting sites, localchurches.org, lists the church in Pasadena as an entry. That entry includes the same phone number that is found on the club’s Facebook site.
- Per the previous point, Christians on Campus at CAL Tech has a direct tie to the Recovery church in Pasadena via contact information between the Facebook site and localchurches.org. Recovery churches take the naming convention of “the church in <city name> city.” Per localchurches.org’s Pasadena entry, the Recovery church in Pasadena in Pasadena is called “the church in Pasadena.” On the club’s Facebook site, the about page includes contact information using the email address “thechurchinpasadena@gmail.com.”
- On the club’s Facebook site, the bottom part of the “Pages Liked by This Page” modal includes the following Recovery pages that represent organizations with ties to the Recovery:
- Bibles for America – an organization that gives away free Recovery Version Bibles (the Lord’s Recovery proprietary translation; it includes footnotes by the cult’s teacher, Witness Lee) and Recovery books by the cult’s teacher, Witness Lee, and whom Witness Lee followed, Watchman Nee.
- Irvine Christian Students – a Facebook site for the Irvine college clubs “Christian Students” at UCI and IVC. Both of those have direct ties to the Recovery. UC Irvine is listed on the Carnegie Mellon List.
- Watchman – a page about Watchman Nee, the Christian minister that the Lord’s Recovery’s leader Witness Lee followed absolutely.
- NYCYPCD – a page linking to nycpcd.org, which records Recovery hymns. It has posted about handing out the Recovery version of the Bible on college campuses.
- The full list of the Facebook site‘s “Pages Like by This Page” includes four more “Christians on Campus” pages (Cal State Long Beach, UCLA, PCC, and UC Berkeley) and other Christian clubs with another popular naming convention, “Christian Students on Campus/Christian Students.”
6. The Irvine Blog
- UC Irvine is on the Carnegie Mellon List.
- On the Irvine Christians blog site, the blog entry “A Virgin to Christ” posted on 11/21/2015 contains a direct quote from Witness Lee’s book Life and Building as Portrayed in the Song of Songs.
- On its blog site, the blog entry “How can you participate in God’s Economy?” posted on 03/06/2015 contains a reference to Witness Lee’s explanation of God’s economy in his book God’s Economy.
- On its blog site, the blog entry “Christian Students at UCI Bible Study” posted on 11/21/2012 encourages people unable to attend the club Bible study to read a book by Witness Lee.
- On the blog site, the blog entry“Rumor Response” (posted date unknown) addresses what the writer calls rumors that “resulted in some negative speaking about our club and its members.” In the argument addressing concerns about promoting only one Bible, the writer indicates that the Recovery Version Bible is an example of a Bible that the club’s students appreciate because it allows “for a richer and more accurate study of the Bible.”
